Pallet Shoe Bench

Pinterest is the best place to get good ideas. My client sent me a picture of a pallet shoe bench she wanted for her new home. I used that inspiration to create this bench.

Piano bench turned shoe bench

This was an old piano bench I found on the side of the road and did that head whip pulled over and loaded up. When I was asked to make a shoe bench this was the perfect opportunity to use this piece.

The Transformation

Painted the base white and then sand distressed with a power sander. If you want to know more about painting furniture check out my free ebook on how to paint furniture here.

cutting pallets

Next up cutting up the pallet wood. I just cut through the nails with my reciprocating saw. Then I have the entire plank to use for my project.

Cutting wood

I cut the planks of wood for the bottom but the top didn’t need to be cut down. In my stock of pallets I have two different sizes the one I like is the smaller size. I prefer the wood looks older and the planks are wider.

nailing pallet wood

I nailed the boards on to the pallet shoe bench frame using my Ridgid nailer.

sanding pallet wood

Sanded down the rough wood I like to leave some of it but it should be smooth and not leave splinters if you rub your hands along it.

furniture finishing

Final step is top coating the entire piece. Because the pallet wood is raw I do sometimes use a sanding sealer on it.

I love the natural look of the pallet wood, the piano bench didn’t look the same so I wanted to change it completely. Which is why I painted it. If I had left it I would have combined two different woods that look to me like a lazy home job.

What ideas have you found on Pinterest and created? I would love to see them.

Thanks for reading and happy DIYing

  1. Hi Tara, i love the the shoe bench. Before i buy the E book I would like to know what kind of paint you use. Not what Brand but why type. chalk or Latex? I have started painting furniture by watching on You Tube or reading blogs so i thought this was going to be easy, but once i start a project i must forget about everything because i have alot of mistakes that i have to redo. It would be nice to have somehting to read in front of me. (printing the ebook). I just don’t know why i cant remember all the things once I start. Getting old stinks. Thank you.
